Why do you need to calibrate?

Calibration or verification of calibration is required because even the best portable instrumentation can drift, or lose its calibration over time. Portable instruments are subject to considerable abuse due to rough handling, drops, bumps, temperature swings, over ranging of sensors, chemical exposure and more.


What does TruTech Tools do?

We test your instrument against a know reference value. A known reference value is one that is traceable to N.I.S.T. standards. This can be a reference pressure gauge, reference test gas, reference temperature, or even a reference air velocity in a wind tunnel.


Why is calibration important for field instrumentation?

The answer is simple. Bad measurements lead to bad decisions. Measurements are made in the field to prove proper operation of equipment. Measurements are also made to prove facts that allow technicians to make decisions on how the repair will be made. If you cannot rely on your measurements what is the point of even making them.

How often do you need to calibrate?

After a period of time, instruments drift and can no longer give accurate measurement results. To resolve this issue, instruments must be calibrated at regular intervals. But how often?
Typically most of the instruments we sell require a verification of calibration and or calibration every 1 to two years depending on the instrument and type of sensors that it uses. The frequency of calibration is often determined by:

  • Following manufacturer's recommendations
  • The importance of the measurement
  • Conformance with quality standard or guidelines (e.g. ISO, BPI, RESNET)
